At this time, when we’re all staying safe by staying home, let us entertain you! From 22 May (7.30pm SGT) to 7 June (11.59pm SGT), WILD RICE is proud to present Mama White Snake, Alfian Sa’at’s cheeky and charming spin on the classic Chinese folk tale.
For all his young life, Meng has dreamt of adventures beyond the confines of Emei Mountain. But his mother and aunt have always kept him close, warning him of the dangers and strangers lurking in the outside world.
Finally, Meng decides he has had enough of the creature comforts of home. Striking out on his own, he enrols in a martial arts school run by the mysterious Master Fahai.
There, he finds new friends and new love… even as old secrets from his family’s past slither to the surface. Fahai soon realises that Meng has been kept in the dark about who his mother and aunt really are: the magical White Snake and Green Snake of legend!
What will Meng do when he learns of his true heritage? Will Fahai succeed in driving a wedge between Meng and his mum? And, as chaos breaks out between enemies old and new, can true love overcome ancient rivalries and family quarrels?
Directed by Pam Oei, Mama White Snake features a sparkling script by Alfian Sa’at and a delightful score by Elaine Chan. For the first time in 30 years, Glen Goei returns to the Singapore stage in the title role – forming a celestial sister act with Ivan Heng as Green Snake. Together, they lead a stellar cast that includes Siti Khalijah Zainal, Zelda Tatiana Ng, Cheryl Tan, Andrew Marko and the First Stage Kids.
