We Need Your Help More Than Ever
Over the past 20 years, Wild Rice has witnessed trials and tribulations, but none as devastating as the COVID-19 pandemic. We are still reeling from the aftershocks of the crisis, which forced us to close our theatre and cancel or delay shows multiple times. Our ticketing income took a severe hit, with audience capacities strictly limited for most of the last two years. At the same time, we were unable to stage critical fundraisers like the Rice Ball, which had to be delivered digitally or greatly scaled down.
Nonetheless, we have persevered, doing everything in our power to keep engaging our audiences, empowering our artists and educating future generations. We do not take our position and responsibilities as Singapore’s leading theatre company lightly. Despite the myriad challenges we faced, we have staged no less than 26 productions, entertaining over 60,000 audience members, since November 2020. We have offered gainful employment to hundreds of freelance theatre practitioners, and have welcomed students, young people and marginalised communities back to our theatre.
We cannot continue doing all of this without your support. You can help us navigate the road to recovery and look toward the future with confidence. By joining us for this year’s Rice Ball, you will make a dramatic difference to everyone whose lives, hearts and minds we change through the theatre we make.
