A YouTube-famous misogynist, the scandal-plagued CEO of a fast fashion empire, a couple trying to repair their marriage after infidelity, and a man with serious anger management issues walk into a therapist’s underground waiting room — formerly a bomb shelter.
What starts as a hectic afternoon of therapy quickly turns claustrophobic when the wifi cuts out, the doors seal shut, and all contact with the outside world is lost. No one can leave, and no one knows who to trust. Then… someone ends up dead.
Panic ensues. Accusations fly. Secrets surface. Tensions escalate. There’s a killer in the room. The only question is: who’s next?
In equal parts alarming and absurd, Murder in the Waiting Room is a dark comedy-thriller that pits outrageous characters against one another, while satirising performative self-care, online clout, corporate hypocrisy and inherited trauma.
Written and performed by Wild Rice’s fifth Singapore Youth Theatre ensemble, this new and original murder mystery offers a fresh perspective on societal issues that reflects the voices and concerns of young theatre-makers. Who knew self-improvement could be this deadly?
