2005’s RICE BALL took a nostalgic journey back to the good old kampong days of yesteryear – when life was simpler, when people lived and let live, took evening strolls by the beach and exchanged stories and recipes with their neighbours.
As in previous RICE BALLs, the wonderful chefs of the Shangri-La Hotel went all out to tantalise taste buds with a sumptuous dinner of Singaporean kampong favourites, presented in new and exciting ways.
W!LD RICE was delighted that Speaker of Parliament, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi and Mrs Abdullah graced this special evening as Guests of Honour.
2005’s Gala was a night to remember, with many of the most popular and best-known names from local theatre and television gracing the stage in a one-hour spectacular. “Kampong Glam!” featured songs, dance, music and comedy sketches that took you back in time. In keeping with the spirit of the evening, the dress code for the gala was “Batik, Kebayas and the Glamorous Good Old Days” – a glittering twist on traditional kampong style!
