Press Gang

The Singapore Theatre Festival 2018
5 – 15 Jul 2018

The Singapore Airlines Theatre, LASALLE College of the Arts

Former civil servant Chia Kin Jek joins The Singapore Times as a reporter, just as the paper’s long-time editor is sent on indefinite leave for an incendiary commentary implying the abuse of power at the highest echelons of government.

As his two deputy editors jockey for position in the power vacuum, a new rumour emerges. If made public, it could potentially take down the government of the day. Will the newspaper publish the story? Who will take over as the new editor? And in a battle between truth and power, who will win?

Bold, sharp and revealing, Press Gang plunges us into a newsroom in crisis and exposes the workings of the not-so-free press. Don’t miss this electrifying new play by former journalist Tan Tarn How, the playwright who created some of Singapore’s most masterful political satires (Fear of Writing, The Lady of Soul and Her Ultimate S Machine).

The 3pm performance on 15 July, Sunday, will be simultaneously interpreted in Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
