An XXX-Rated Evening

Our guests left their inhibitions at the door for XXX: The Very W!LD RICE BALL – possibly the sexiest and most thrilling event on Singapore’s social calendar!

On 8 October 2016, W!LD RICE invited Singapore’s great and good to cut loose and party for a good cause! XXX: The Very W!LD RICE BALL was X-quisite, X-traordinary and X-hilarating – all qualities shared by W!LD RICE and Hublot, the evening’s presenting sponsor for the fifth year in a row.

Is it just us, or are things getting X-tremely sexy in here?

Decked out in the wildest and most exotic costumes, our 668 guests for the night were ready to have their senses titillated as they strolled into the Shangri-La Hotel’s Island Ballroom. Once through the doors, they were transported into an electrifying wonderland of sensual fantasy – part burlesque, part cabaret, and pure entertainment.

A dash of X-otic X-tasy!

Appetites were whetted upon a beautiful edible art installation created by 2am:dessertbar. Throughout the evening, our guests dined on an X-ceptional four-course dinner designed by Shangri-La Hotel’s Executive Chef Edmund Cheah. Internationally renowned dessert maestro Janice Wong capped off the banquet with the piece de resistance: her delectable signature dessert, Chocolate H2O.

The XXX Cabaret Show was an X-citing showcase of the finest theatre talents Singapore has to offer. Pam Oei, our intrepid hostess, kicked off the proceedings with a roof-shattering rendition of Relax. She was followed on stage by Hossan Leong, Dru Chen and Sukki Singapora, as well as a diverse company of the best dancers from all over the world.

Halfway through the concert, guests at the Ball bore witness to a romantic proposal. Paul Searles of the Gunnery, who has composed original music for several W!LD RICE productions, took to one knee to ask his girlfriend Natasha to marry him. Our guests wished the happy couple well with an impromptu ‘yam seng’ toast!

All together now: awwwwwww!
Yaaaaaaaaaam seeeeeeeeeng!

During the Ball, Ivan Heng, Artistic Director of W!LD RICE, presented the company’s report card for the year. Anchored by the 2016 Singapore Theatre Festival, which featured eight new and original plays including the award-winning HOTEL, it was one of W!LD RICE’s most successful seasons yet.

“Thank you for giving us the confidence, encouragement and support to be X-traordinary,” said Ivan. “To continue pushing for X-cellence and to keep having X-citing conversations about the issues and ideas that really matter.”
