After close to two decades of creating home-grown theatre for audiences in Singapore and around the world, WILD RICE will finally have its very own theatre at Funan.
In collaboration with CapitaLand, this state-of-the-art theatre complex, which includes studios and offices, is located in the very heart of Singapore’s civic and cultural district. With its unique position at the intersection of commerce, culture, government and history, WILD RICE @ Funan lends Singapore theatre an unparallelled visibility and prominence.
Envisioned by Founding Artistic Director Ivan Heng and Executive Director Tony Trickett, the complex has been designed by an award- winning team, including leading Singaporean architecture studio Zarch Collaboratives and renowned international theatre design consultancy Charcoalblue.
The main theatre – The Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre – is a 358-seat venue featuring Singapore’s first thrust stage, inspired by the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Redefining theatre as we know it, this groundbreaking new space promises an intimate experience like no other.
A home for WILD RICE and an iconic destination theatre, WILD RICE @ Funan will present the very best of Singapore theatre.
In telling stories of and about Singapore, we will bring together people of all ages and from all walks of life, giving them a sense of pride, belonging and ownership in the art we create. Our theatre will nurture and develop future generations of artists and audiences. Together, we will build a legacy of artistic excellence for generations to come.
