Super Women Pow Wow! And you thought Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest crossover event of all time!? (L-R): Candice de Rozario as Chun Li; Jo Tan as Wonder Woman; Kimberly Chan as Sailor Moon; Cheryl Tan as Captain Marvel; Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai as Okoye; and Frances Lee as Poison Ivy

For one very special evening, aliens, superheroes and other Unidentified Fabulous Objects partied the night away in Singapore’s Area 51! On 5 October 2018, our amazing friends, angels and supporters came together for Out Of This World, a star-studded gala event to benefit WILD RICE.

Re-live the magic in this epic highlight reel!

The evening was a sold-out success, raising $1.275 million with the kind support of 694 patrons. Most of the funds raised will directly support our programming in the coming year – allowing us to continue creating the world-class theatre you have come to associate with WILD RICE.

Of the full amount raised, $500,000 will go towards WILD RICE’s brand-new theatre – which is scheduled to open in September 2019 at the upcoming Funan lifestyle complex.

This amount was raised in conjunction with our newly-launched ‘Plant A Seat’ appeal, which enables donors to name the custom-designed seats in the theatre.

Anthonia Hui and Leonardo Drago of AL Wealth Partners Pte Ltd got the ball rolling with a generous pledge of $120,000 for 12 seats.

Meanwhile, our guests – who had been invited to rock out in full sci-fi splendour – went to infinity and beyond! It truly was the biggest crossover event of all time, as superheroes and aliens met and mingled in Shangri-La Hotel’s Island Ballroom.

Avengers Assemble!
Oh wait, what are Venom and Wonder Woman doing in here?! Our guests really dressed up for the occasion!

In the grand tradition of all Rice Balls, the highlight of the evening was Out Of This World – a concert extravaganza that dazzled our audiences with the star power of the finest performers from Singapore and the region. Some of the familiar faces from the Singapore stage included Siti Khalijah Zainal, Benjamin Kheng, Sezairi, Cheryl Tan and more.

During the Ball, Ivan Heng, Artistic Director of WILD RICE, thanked our guests for their support.

He also urged them to look forward to our ground-breaking new theatre, the first theatre in Singapore to be planned, built and run by theatre-makers.

“WILD RICE @ Funan will be a home for Singapore theatre,” said Ivan. “A home gives us a sense of identity and belonging. A home gives us a safe place where we can take risks. A home is where we can dream and plan for the future, and be inspired to think about the legacy we will leave our children.”

“We have every confidence that WILD RICE @ Funan will be a home for everyone.”
