Unlock Your Creative Potential Through Movement

In this series of movement classes and hands-on workshops, Wild Moves invites you to connect with your body in new and intuitive ways. Come explore how movement can open up new avenues of creative expression, while also serving as a language of self-discovery. Through practical exercises, case studies and reflective discussions, each session reveals fresh insights into what it means for a performer to sense, feel, and move with purpose.

Whether you’re experienced or just beginning, Wild Moves meets you where you are and supports you in developing your own toolkit of physical theatre and choreographic skills. In this collaborative environment, individuals of all dance experience levels can build creative habits that will last a lifetime, while discovering new ways to move, think and express themselves as artists.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

Spanning seven weeks, Wild Moves requires no prior experience in dance, movement, or theatre – only a genuine interest in choreography, physical theatre, or performance. This course is recommended for individuals aged 18 and above.

Transformative Tools: Ritual, Practice and Creative Flow (27 October to 8 December 2025)

In this programme, led by Edith Podesta, participants will take inspiration from influential makers and their methods to establish their own rituals and practices whilst constantly nurturing creativity in their movement work.

Renowned choreographers in our syllabus include Deborah Hay, whose work treats all dance as sacred – a fusion of body and consciousness through spontaneous, invented rituals that cultivate attention, presence, and transformation; Anna Halprin, known for participatory works like The Planetary Dance, which unite healing, social action, and personal myth through communal ritual; Gabrielle Roth, who developed The Five Rhythms, a movement meditation that takes practitioners on a journey through Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness; and Maija Hirvanen, who proposes performance magic through ritual-like “recipes and spills” that conjure presence and rich sensory worlds. The programme will also explore the Eight Classic Centers of Motivation, a framework of archetypes and mythic energies – from survival instincts to spiritual transcendence – that constitute a toolkit for transformation in performance. There will also be a special session with guest lecturer Zarina Muhammad, who introduces Antidotes for Surviving Eclipses: Myth, Magic and Ritual as Resistance.

Guest Lecture Bio:

Zarina Muhammad is an artist, educator and researcher whose practice is deeply entwined with a critical re-examination of oral histories, ethnographic literature and other historiographic accounts about Southeast Asia. Working at the intersections of installation, moving image, sound, text, participatory practice and performance, Zarina’s practice has been interested in the broader contexts of eco-cultural landscapes, myth-making, haunted historiographies and the role of the artist as a “cultural ventriloquist” who lends polyphonic voices to data-driven systems, multispecies entanglements and shapeshifting worlds. She is currently developing Breathing in a World of Water // Calling the Earth to Witness, a long-term, collaborative, transnational audio-visual-performance research project that explores how water, earth, land, and soil shape histories, cultures, and economies, with particular attention paid to Southeast Asian narratives and situated ecologies. The recipient of the 2022 IMPART Art Prize, Zarina has presented her art installations, performances and movingimage work widely at international biennales like FotoFest Biennial 2024: Critical Geography (USA), Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2024 (Saudi Arabia), Singapore Biennale 2024, Lahore Biennale 2024 (Pakistan), as well as institutions such as Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan), MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum (Thailand), Tin Sheds Gallery (Australia) and a solo presentation at the Singapore Pavilion of the 15th Gwangju Biennale (South Korea). She is presently part of the travelling exhibition Actions for the Earth: Art, Care, and Ecology, curated by Sharmila Wood and produced by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York.

Choreographic Lineages and Creative Tools (25 August to 6 October 2025)

Participants will get to know the work of renowned choreographers such as “Jonathan Burrows”, who offers tools to navigate the overwhelming choices faced by choreographers; “Mary Overlie”, who applies Horizontal (deconstructive) and Vertical (integrative) practices for performance-making; “Doris Humphrey”, who posits the choreographer as a maker of meanings in establishing the foundations of choreographic composition; and “Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker”, whose seminal book, A Choreographer’s Score, offers insights into investigating music, mathematics, geometry, and the architecture of movement. There will also be a special session with guest lecturer Dr. Stephanie Burridge, who introduces The Choreographic Notebook – a hands-on approach to generating ideas, applying choreographic tools, and documenting creative processes through scoring and reflection.

Guest Lecture Bio:

Dr. Stephanie Burridge trained at the Laban Centre (UK), and holds a BA in Anthropology/Art History, as well as a PhD in Contemporary Dance from the London Contemporary Dance School in association with the University of Kent. She was awarded the first Choreographic Fellowship and, more recently, the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Australian Choreographic Centre. A leading authority on Asian dance, she has edited several key anthologies on dance and movement, including Celebrating Dance in Asia and the Pacific, The Routledge Companion to Dance in Asia and the Pacific, and Perspectives on Dance, Young People and Change. Are you new to acting and looking to establish a solid foundation? Or perhaps you are returning after a break and keen to reconnect with your craft? Moment to Moment is an intensive training programme for emerging actors, educators, and curious beginners who want to ground their performances in truth, action and imaginative responsiveness.

Rooted in the powerful traditions and principles of Uta Hagen and Konstantin Stanislavski, this 14-week programme fuses classical technique with contemporary practice. You’ll learn to build characters from the inside out, develop truthful behaviour through structured improvisation, and navigate imagined circumstances with emotional specificity and spontaneity.

By combining practical technique with reflective study, the course strengthens your understanding of the actor’s dual task: cultivating the self and embodying the role. This course is structured, guided, and designed to demystify the acting process, —laying down a practical, creative groundwork you can build on for years to come. Through practical exercises, text work, and scene study, you’ll explore how action, relationship, and environment shape your performance – so that each moment on stage feels alive, connected, and repeatable without ever becoming mechanical.

Whether you’re preparing for auditions, or seeking more depth and structure in your work, Moment to Moment offers a space to train, risk, reflect – and transform.

You Will Learn To:

  • Apply Hagen’s Six Steps to create rich, believable characters from the inside-out approach
  • Build detailed inner lives through practical exercises such as Physical Destination, Fourth Side, Moment-to-Moment Reality, and Talking to the Audience
  • Clarify your character’s objectives, obstacles, relationships, and circumstances
  • Rehearse monologues and scenes with guidance, feedback, and structured reflection
  • Develop rehearsal strategies you can rely on to prepare for future roles or ongoing training
This course is recommended for individuals aged 18 and above, and we welcome:
  • Aspiring actors with little or no formal training
  • Individuals exploring acting for the first time
  • Educators and facilitators seeking foundational tools
  • Anyone curious about the craft of performance

Already familiar with the fundamentals of acting – but hitting internal blocks or feeling stuck in your process? The Unblocked Actor is a 14-week course for actors with some experience who want to overcome performance anxiety, deepen their scene work, and reconnect with instinctive presence.

Inspired by Declan Donnellan’s The Target and the Actor, this in-depth, practice-based course shifts the actor’s focus from inward analysis to external action. You’ll learn to rehearse by responding to space, stakes, and your scene partners – not by forcing emotional results. Designed to reset and rewire your habits, this programme will also challenge you to take creative risks, work with full-length scenes, and engage text through action-based rehearsal strategies.

Through rigorous text-based work and by equipping you with tangible tools, The Unblocked Actor reframes acting as a dynamic response to a changing world, and will help you rediscover your spontaneity, purpose and truth as a performer.

You Will Learn To:

  • Apply the “Six Rules of the Target” to clarify intention and release tension
  • Redirect performance anxiety into action and spatial focus
  • Use targets, stakes, and partner work as your primary rehearsal anchors
  • Train your voice and body to respond to real-time changes in the scene
  • Practise working from discovery rather than invention to keep your performances alive
This course is recommended for individuals aged 18 and above, and we welcome:
  • Actors with previous training or onstage experience
  • Performers seeking to move past anxiety or habitual blocks
  • Artists looking to refresh and challenge their rehearsal process
  • Directors and educators interested in target-based frameworks
