Singaporeans are obsessed with food. Debates are triggered over the best places to buy chicken rice. Outrage is frequently expressed over “Singapore noodles”, which did not originate from the island. And Singaporeans and Malaysians often make ownership claims over food as if locked in a heated custody battle.
In All You Can Eat, eight exciting young playwrights from Wild Rice’s The Rice Cooker programme serve 10-minute plays inspired by food, with dramaturgy byAlfian Sa’at and Joel Tan. A family is both brought together and torn apart by Mee Soto. A man with a terrible secret demonstrates how to prepare a Dry Martini. And a diner at a Hotpot restaurant receives the biggest surprise of her life.
Young & Wild cook up a storm with this multi-course offering, under the direction of Edith Podesta. Come feast with Wild Rice’s talented youth ensemble as they explore the mouth-wateringly diverse and dramatic foodscapes of Singapore!
