In the theatre, there are always opportunities to find another point of view.
Our young & W!LD troupe learnt this and more in a Viewpoints workshop conducted by renowned physical theatre director Mark Hill in mid-November.
The Viewpoints Method was developed by choreographer Mary Overlie and adapted for theatre acting by directors Anne Bogart and Tina Landau. It’s a method that trains a group of actors to generate dynamic and visceral movement for the stage by becoming more aware of their senses and bodies.

“I find the Viewpoints Method very useful for actors and theatre-makers,” explained Serena Ho, co-director of young & W!LD.
She engaged Mark’s services because of his extensive skill and experience in teaching physical theatre across the world.
“I have known Mark for about four years now,” Serena said. “I have always respected him as an artist and teacher. He is a very passionate and inspiring person.”

Our young & W!LD ensemble participated enthusiastically into the workshop, learning more about themselves and their craft along the way.
“Mark was brilliant in showing us the importance of awareness: awareness of body, space and our fellow actors,” Perry Shen pointed out after the workshop. “Without awareness, an actor can never hope to be anything more than a loud and egotistical sore thumb onstage!”
“I learned to trust more in my instincts,” Faith Sim added. “The Viewpoints workshop gave us a vocabulary for us to communicate with as actors and theatre-makers.”
