In The Spotlight: Alfian Sa'at

Dear friends and W!LD RICE Angels,

Over the past week, we have thrown open the theatre doors and invited audiences to watch three of our resident playwright Alfian Sa'at's most arresting, brilliant works. We could not have asked for a more passionate, warm-hearted response from each and every one of you. Cook A Pot Of Curry and Dreamplay: Asian Boys Vol. 1 have played to packed houses. The Optic Trilogy opened to just as warm a welcome a few days ago. Every night, when the lights go up and we see your faces in the audience - eager to be entertained, to laugh, to think, to cry - we know that the hard work of the past few months has been worth it. Someone asked me the other day when W!LD RICE will be presenting the next Singapore Theatre Festival. I believe that this season of plays - a festival celebrating one of our best local playwrights and his stories about Singapore and Singaporeans - IS the Singapore Theatre Festival. Thank you for celebrating it with us!

In this issue, we look back on the electric first week of the festival. Nelson Chia takes us into the kitchen with Alfian to Cook A Pot Of Curry. Paul Searles tells us how he found inspiration for the soundscapes he designed for each show in the festival. We also celebrate the arts with Simone Lourey, a member of our W!LD RICE family. And finally, we remind you of the FEST!VITIES that are still on the calendar for the festival. Enjoy W!LD TIMES!

My best,

Hot Off The Press!
