theatre and education
We have designed a comprehensive education programme that uses theatre to educate and empower students, while supporting teachers in engaging them on the issues and ideas raised on stage.
In 2019, we engaged over 30 institutions with learning opportunities. We hope to expand our outreach in the coming years.
Theatre for Young Audiences
In addition to our Main Season, Wild Rice specially commissions performances for young people. Written, created and performed by Singapore’s finest theatre-makers, these performances will explore stories and issues that young people face today. Audiences will be challenged to watch, think, consider different perspectives and empathise with people who are different to them. Performances may be accompanied by talkbacks, workshops and additional learning resources that teachers may use in classrooms to create a meaningful learning experience for students.
Learning Resource Packs
Learning Resource Packs are free downloadable PDF resources created by WILD RICE that complement our year-round programming. These packs contain research, articles, interviews with artists, discussion points and activities, as well as suggested films, books and artwork related to each show.
We offer post-show talks to enhance the experience of going to the theatre for students. These dialogue sessions are an excellent opportunity for students to discuss, respond and share their thoughts about what they have experienced and learned at the theatre.
If you would like to arrange a talk for your students, please get in touch with Ezzat at email@example.com.
To further enhance the learning experience, we offer workshops that will provide students with enriching opportunities to get involved in various aspects of the theatre-making process. Our artist-facilitators will guide students in their journeys through the theatre. Workshops can be customised to focus on specific areas (e.g., playwriting, directing) at a level appropriate for the participants’ age and experience.
