For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again

19 – 29 Aug 2004

Victoria Theatre, Singapore

They raise us, they love us, and at some point, they let us go. Mothers, the first loves of our lives, and sometimes, the hardest. Acclaimed Canadian playwright Michael Tremblay celebrates his mother, and all mothers, in this heartbreakingly beautiful play.

Drawing on Tremblay’s childhood memories, the play follows Nana and her youngest son from one witty vignette to another in their tumultuous lives as his mother struggles to raise five children in near poverty. Life isn’t bleak though, not with Nana’s zest for literature, drama and exaggeration, and her unconditional love for her children.

This love spills over in this exuberant and joyous play, as much a celebration of the magic of theatre as maternal love. FOR THE PLEASURE OF SEEING HER AGAIN is a play for all people who love life, who have ever disagreed with their mother and realised later how much they were loved despite the disagreement.
