Jan/Feb 2015 || Issue No. 22

Dear friends and W!LD RICE Angels,

How quickly time flies! It feels as if no time has passed at all since we rang in the New Year and already the Chinese New Year is upon us. At W!LD RICE, we have been busily preparing for imagiNATION, one of our most ambitious seasons to date.

In this issue, we chat with our Associate Director Glen Goei about expanding his repertoire of classics with Public Enemy, Henrik Ibsen's timeless classic about the will (and tyranny) of the majority. I literally took the plunge for the production, and we are happy to share what went into the making of the Public Enemy poster.

Have a glimpse into our Hotel as we detail the "ground-breaking" workshop we had with the cast and creatives. We also chat with Rosemary Chng, an ardent supporter of the company, while actor Leonard Tan updates us on young & W!LD ahead of its second showcase in May.

In closing, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you for your wonderful support. Truly, the past 15 years have been a very thrilling and satisfying adventure, and we owe a large part of our success to you. On behalf of all at W!LD RICE, here’s wishing one and all a happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous Year of the Goat. As we like to say, “HUAT AH!!!".

My best,

Hot Off The Press!

Checking Into our Hotel!

The W!LD RICE Hotel will soon be open for business, and we can't wait for you to check in! In the meantime, the staff have been hard at work in a second series of workshops. Our directors, playwrights and cast weigh in on their journey through 100 years of Singapore history.

Touched By An Angel: Rosemary Chng

Rosemary Chng has attended our shows for well over a decade, and has contributed to W!LD RICE in ways big and small for years. Just this week, she spent all day cooking up a delicious Chinese New Year feast for the entire W!LD RICE team.

young & W!LD: Leonard Tan

As a child, Leonard Tan loved the limelight. He moved from stage to stage in search of an audience – and finally found his home in the theatre. Ahead of young & W!LD's next showcase in May, Leonard tells us about discovering his calling and stepping out of his comfort zone as a performer. Read more...
