The most rollicking party I have attended in recent years was Wild Rice's 10th Annual Rice Ball... We have amazing talent here and more importantly, we have a unique artistic and cultural soul. Wild Rice is part of the soul.

-Woffles Wu, 8 Days

It was, essentially, the essence of Wild Rice rolled into a one night. A fun, fabulous and perfectly harmless extravaganza, where everyone, especially the performers, had a great time. With its aims tucked firmly under its belt, Wild Rice showed off some of the things they've stood for over the years, such as melding tradition with pop, supporting local talent and promoting new talent.

-The Business Times

Even the menu was a creative take on local dishes with epicurean versions of rojak and laksa, conceptualised by Wild Rocket's chef Willin Low. Witty skts and musical performances by the W!ld Rice team and guest performers put the evening's entertainment value at a perfect 10.

-Tatler

Its contingency of fiercely professional talents, in characteristic wit and irony, brought the house down with its biting comedy, and got the house up with its musical performances.

-Sylvia Toh Paik Choo, The New Paper

About the Rice Ball

An annual fundraising gala for W!LD RICE, the RICE BALL has established itself as one of the most talked about and highly anticipated events of the Singapore social calendar. Fabulous, sophisticated, entertaining and outrageously fun, the event sees a gathering of Singapore’s great and good, coming together to show their support for W!LD RICE, as it continues to fulfill its mission of creating significant, innovative and inclusive works, inspiring audiences in Singapore and around the world.

The inaugural RICE BALL, Starry Starry Night was conceived and spearheaded by W!LD RICE’s Guardian Angel Kay Kuok, as a by-invitation-only dinner and soiree at the Shangri-la Hotel’s Island Ballroom in association with Prestige magazine, to introduce W!LD RICE to the social and business elite. With a scrumptious spread laid out by the hotel’s chefs and a charity auction, the highlight of the evening was its all-star concert directed by Artistic Director Ivan Heng and Associate Artistic Director Glen Goei – featuring Singapore theatre’s finest talents.

Over the years, the event has grown from strength to strength, graced by an impressive list of Guests of Honour including: His Excellency President SR Nathan and Mrs Nathan (2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009), Mrs Goh Chok Tong (2004), Mr Abdullah Tarmugi Speaker of Parliament (2005), Mr Mah Bow Tan Minister for National Development (2007).

Today, this gala event is organised by the RICE BALL Committee, a group of committed individuals who have been inspired and touched by W!LD RICE.

You can make a difference. By attending the RICE BALL, you will help sustain a vital creative enterprise and make a contribution to our city’s cultural, intellectual and social life. All funds raised will go directly towards supporting the company’s artistic and educational programming. It’s a not-to-be-missed event, that enables W!LD RICE to develop and produce works of excellence, and making Singapore proud!
